Position Summary:

The Privacy Specialist I supports the organization's privacy program through monitoring, auditing, investigation support, patient rights administration, education, and compliance activities.WorkingunderthedirectionofthePrivacyManager,thisroleassistswithmaintaining compliance with HIPAA and other applicable privacy laws while helping foster a culture of privacy and compliance throughout the organization.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assistwithprivacyriskassessmentsandsupportremediationeffortsforidentifiedrisks
  • Providesupportforprivacyinitiativesandannualcomplianceworkplanactivities
  • Updateandcollaborateonprivacypolicies,procedures,andtrainingtoensureongoing compliance with evolving regulatory requirements
  • Assiststaffwithhandlingrequestsforpatientinformationandprocessingother legal/regulatory requests as needed
  • Assist with the investigation of potential or actual breaches of protected health information (PHI) and other privacy-related data; assist in the development and implementationofcorrectiveactionplansforidentifiedissuesandcoordinateapplicable follow-up with action plan owners
  • Conductroutinemonitoringandauditingtoassesstheorganization’scompliancewith privacyrequirements;partnerwithappropriatedepartmentsandindividualstoresolve noted findings
  • ProcessandtrackrequestsforAccountingofDisclosures,AmendmentsofPHI,and Requests to Restrict Use and Disclosure
  • Coordinateandtrackbusinessassociateinventory
  • Assistwithmaintainingadatainventoryfornewandexistingproducts,servicesand business processes
  • Analyzetrendsofkeyperformanceindicatorresultsforperformanceimprovementopportunities
  • Analyzeprivacymetricsandidentifyopportunitiesforprocessimprovement
  • Draftanddistributereportsweekly,monthly,quarterly,andannually
  • Continuallyimproveandupdateknowledgetoaccommodatechangestothe organization’s regulatory environment and needs

Experience, Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’sDegree(preferablyinahealthcarerelatedfield)orequivalentworkexperiencerequired
  • 1+yearofexperienceinhealthcarecompliance,privacy,healthinformationmanagement, healthcare operations, risk management, laboratory operations, or a related field preferred
  • WorkingknowledgeofHIPAAPrivacyRulerequirementsandhealthcareprivacyprinciples
  • Familiaritywithhealthcarecomplianceprogramsandregulatoryrequirements
  • Strongorganizational,analytical,andproblem-solvingskills
  • Abilitytomanagemultiplepriorities,projects,anddeadlines,aswellasadaptto changing business needs
  • Strongwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills
  • Abilitytomaintainconfidentialityandexercisediscretionwhenhandlingsensitiveinformation
  • Abilitytoparticipateinteamprojectsandfillvariousrolessuchasteammember, facilitator, or leader as needed
  • Experiencereviewing,organizing,andtrackingcompliancedataanddocumentation
