About this role

This is a remote position.

Job Description

The main function of the role is the day-to-day operation of vessels chartered by EMR (European

Metal Recycling), working closely with Shipping Operation Manager, Team Leader, Chartering

Department, Ships’ Masters, Agents, and vessel Owners to ensure the performance of safe,

profitable, and efficient voyages.

The shipment of scrap must be monitored from origin to destination, ensuring it complies fully with

the terms of the receiver contract and vessel charter party. Any arising issues whilst vessel is under

charter must be dealt with proactively and addressed in the most professional and timely manner

using an elevated level of problem solving and organisation skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with vessel owners, ship’s captain, port agents and surveyors throughout course of
voyage, to ensure operations run smoothly.

  • Ensure the prompt payment of expenses (hire/ freight payments, DA’s etc.) during vessel’s

charter.

  • Calculating necessary bunker requirement for a vessel if required and procuring bunkers in

the market.

  • Distribute ships schedules in a punctual and accurate manner to senior management.
  • Ensuring systems are updated daily, entering received information in to IMOS (Integrated
Maritime Operating Software) “live” as it is received from various parties.

  • Creating and maintaining ship management files for TC vessels.
  • Accurately maintain ships data within IMOS to facilitate senior management reporting.
  • Provide detailed competitor tracking spreadsheet which is used by commercial management

to monitor the scrap export market.

  • Completing multiple documents to facilitate smooth operation of vessel (e.g., LOI’s, LOP’s).

· Laytime calculations

  • Appointing weather routing services to track voyage performance and analysing/

implementing results.

  • Monitor damage reports from agents and Captain to address repairs in accordance with c/p

always at most efficient time/cost.

  • Proactively carrying out tasks and monitoring task lists assigned to each vessel.

Key Deliverables

· Action emails timely.

  • Update IMOS regularly and accurately with information related to voyages (inc. timings, B/L

weight and costs).

  • Ensuring vessel schedules are updated daily, entering received information “live” as it is

received from various parties.

  • Study the relevant recap, charter party and port rotation to ensure info can be easily recalled.
  • Provide clear and precise voyage instructions to ship’s captain prior to commencement of the voyage.
  • Inform vessel owners, ship’s captain and agents of information related to voyage, vessel, and ports.
  • Prompt payment of hire, freight, and port expenses during vessel’s charter.
  • Make necessary appointments of weather routing companies, agents, and surveyors in suitable time.
  • If an LOI is required ensure same is agreed upon prior arrival at disport in conjunction with commercial/ contract departments.
  • Finalise all voyage costs and accounts with aim of promptly marking voyages as ‘closed.’
  • Create and maintain ship management files for TC vessels.
  • Accurately maintain ships data within IMOS to facilitate senior management reporting.
  • Provide detailed competitor tracking spreadsheet which is used by commercial management to better understand the scrap export market.
  • Achieve best results in settlement of damages.
  • Achieve competitive pricing when purchasing bunkers.
  • Prepare and issue laytime calculations on completion of discharge.
  • Monitor open and close voyages within agreed timeframe.
  • Update dairy notes and noteworthy events on IMOS.
  • Update and complete task list accurately and timely on IMOS.

Requirements

Experience

  • Relevant shipping background is of benefit.

Qualifications

  • Degree in shipping or shipping related subject.
  • Other recognised industry qualifications e.g., Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers
