Arkansas Talent Group is seeking an Estimator for our client's rapidly growing construction company. The Construction Project Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, competitive cost estimates that support preconstruction and bidding process, contributing directly to successful project acquisition and financial performance. This role partners closely with project leadership, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to analyze construction documents and market data, develop detailed quantity takeoffs and cost models, and help position the company to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Job Description:

The Project Estimator is a midlevel estimating position responsible for independently preparing and developing competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects. This role requires prior estimating experience, a deeper understanding of construction means and methods, the ability to analyze project risk, and production assumptions

The Project Estimator works closely with senior estimators, project managers, operations, subcontractors, and vendors to deliver complete and accurate bids while supporting continuous improvement of estimating processes and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Estimating & Bid Development

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for heavy civil projects including earthwork, utilities, paving, and structures.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and pricing using HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek Earthwork Takeoff Software, and Google Earth.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements to identify scope, risk, and cost impacts.
  • Develop pricing strategies, production rates, and assumptions appropriate for project size and complexity.
  • Assist senior estimators with bid reviews, value engineering ideas, and final bid submission.

Subcontractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Solicit, analyze, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and vendors to ensure competitive pricing and coverage.
  • Compare quotes for scope completeness, exclusions, and compliance with bid documents.

Preconstruction & Data Management

  • Manage estimating opportunities through HCSS PreConstruction.
  • Maintain organized project files, bid books, and estimating documentation.
  • Assist with historical cost tracking and updating estimating databases.
  • Support continuous improvement of estimating SOPs, SharePoint resources, and workflows.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure constructability and alignment with field practices.
  • Provide guidance and support to Estimating Coordinators or entry-level estimating.‑level estimating staff.
  • Participate in post-bid reviews and lessons learned meetings.‑bid reviews and lessons learned meetings.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in heavy civil or highway construction.
  • Working knowledge of construction plans, specifications, and bid documents.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and building estimates.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Possess a deeper understanding of project scheduling, the CPM Methodology, and experience with P6 Primavera software is a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with HCSS products including HeavyBid, PreConstruction, HeavyJob, and HCSS Plans.
  • Field experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Broad Understanding construction means and methods, as well as production rates.
  • Experience assisting with or leading bid reviews.
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Understanding or experience with alternative project delivery methods such as CMGC, DB, CMAR, etc.
  • Specific Experience with Mainline Concrete Paving operations and equipment.
